Mandatory national standards for electric vehicles issued

On May 12, GB 18384-2020 safety requirements for electric vehicles and GB 38031-2020 safety requirements for power batteries for electric vehicles, organized by the Ministry of industry and information technology, led by China Automotive Technology Research Center Co., Ltd., and participated by key enterprises such as BAIC new energy, were approved and issued by the State Administration of market supervision and administration and the National Standardization Administration. As the first batch of mandatory national standards for electric vehicles, it will be implemented from January 1, 2021.
As a key enterprise of new energy vehicles in China, BAIC new energy has been the sales champion of domestic pure electric vehicle market for seven consecutive years. With its profound technology accumulation and strength reserve in the field of new energy vehicles in the past ten years, BAIC new energy has deeply participated in the formulation of two mandatory national standards for electric vehicles.
As a national strategic emerging industry, new energy vehicles have made great progress in technology level, industrial scale, market acceptance and other aspects in recent ten years. In order to implement the requirements of “energy saving and new energy vehicle industry development plan (2012-2020)” and “medium and long term development plan of automobile industry”, combining with the actual development of new energy vehicle industry and the needs of technical progress, the Ministry of industry and information technology started the development of electric vehicle safety standard in 2016. The strong standard of electric vehicles is a comprehensive summary of the technological innovation achievements and experience of China’s electric vehicle industry, which fully coordinates with international standards and regulations, and further improves and optimizes the safety technical requirements for electric vehicles and power battery products.
In the “safety requirements for electric vehicles”, the electrical safety and functional safety requirements of electric vehicles are mainly specified, and the alarm signal requirements for thermal events of battery system are added; the waterproof, insulation resistance and monitoring requirements of the whole vehicle are strengthened to reduce the safety risks of vehicles in normal use and wading conditions; the test methods of insulation resistance and capacitance coupling are optimized to improve the test The detection accuracy ensures the safety of high voltage electric vehicle.
“Safety requirements for power batteries for electric vehicles” fully considers the extreme use scenarios of users, and a number of test items are added for various extreme scenarios, such as: immersion test after vibration is used to verify whether the sealing of battery pack is abnormal and whether there is insulation problem under waterlogging environment encountered by users in the whole life cycle; overcurrent protection test simulates charger When the current exceeds the limit value due to the fault, the safety protection of the battery pack can avoid exceeding the normal use conditions of the battery, thus causing safety problems; the thermal diffusion test simulates that after the thermal runaway of a single battery in the battery pack under extreme conditions, the battery system will not ignite or explode within 5 minutes. At the same time, the alarm signal requirement is added in the safety requirements for electric vehicles, which can be the first time Give safety warning to drivers and passengers, and reserve safe escape time for passengers.
In recent years, with the progress of battery and vehicle technology, the driving range of new energy vehicles is no longer a pain point for users, and the safety problem is becoming increasingly prominent. The thermal runaway of battery has become the technical crux of the whole industry. At present, most of the new energy vehicle enterprises have established the safety requirements, performance requirements and test methods in the whole technical fields of vehicle, energy consumption, charging and swapping, electromagnetic compatibility, battery, motor, etc., and established a scientific and reasonable standard system. The implementation of the two national mandatory standards further clarifies the corporate responsibility, which is of great significance to improve the safety level of new energy vehicles and ensure the healthy and sustainable development of the industry. It is believed that with the implementation of national mandatory standards and the improvement of battery related technical level, the safety of electric vehicles in the future will be finally solved.
Some people in the industry said that the two compulsory standards reflect the gradual transition from “policy driven” to “market-oriented” in the industrialization process of new energy vehicles, which are more market-oriented and effectively contact the needs of users. These requirements will have a far-reaching effect and significance at the level of users, automobile enterprises, battery suppliers and battery cell suppliers, which will promote the technical progress in battery safety and anti-collision design of new energy vehicles in China to a certain extent, and improve the international status of China’s new energy vehicle products and standards.
As the leading enterprise in the domestic new energy vehicle industry, BAIC new energy takes safety as the top priority of electric vehicles in the development process. At present, it has completed the establishment and implementation of enterprise standards, test specifications and test cases of vehicle electric safety. In addition, based on the requirements of electric vehicle safety standards, through technical exchanges with experts and scholars in many professional fields, and drawing on relevant domestic and foreign standards, technical requirements and test specifications, higher and more comprehensive requirements are put forward for the practical application of electric vehicles, so as to ensure the safety and reliability of products to the maximum extent.
Up to now, Beiqi new energy has been awarded the first place of CACSI China Quality Association’s “new energy vehicle user satisfaction” for five consecutive years. Its new energy vehicle has a mileage of over 12 billion 100 million kilometers, equivalent to 300 thousand circles around the equator of the earth, which fully verified its advanced nature and reliability in the field of electric vehicle safety.
In July last year, BAIC new energy built a new energy vehicle test center with industry benchmark significance. The construction area of the test center is about 50000 square meters, with 88 laboratories and more than 400 sets of international advanced test equipment. Among them, more than 140 million yuan was invested in battery related test equipment to fully guarantee the performance verification of products.
In the future, BAIC new energy will continue to optimize and improve, form a safety standard system and test specifications for charging safety, power exchange safety, driving safety, operation safety, etc., and continuously strengthen the development and verification process of the whole vehicle
